About Kathy Benjamin

Kathy Green Benjamin graduated from Fernandina Beach High School in 1978. Upon completion, she earned credentials from cosmetology school, dental school, and a pharmacy technician license. As a young child in the local church, she began singing in the church choir and her voice quickly captured the hearts of many. She began to also singing on the district and national level in her church association. Kathy married to Robert Benjamin in September of 2009, and they established a church in Jacksonville, Florida. 

Kathy was also an entrepreneur; she was the founder and CEO of KWB Contracting Inc. and Kathy’s Kreations. Spending quality time with her family was a top priority and loved to shop. She was such an incredible woman, wife, mother and mentor. Kathy was full of wisdom and she always encouraged many people of all ages to do better and to go further. 

In May 2022, Ms. Kathy passed away but her consistency as an example of effortless excellence is unforgettable. She was the perfect balance of how to balance grit and grace through words and in action. Her love and care for others will have a lasting impact on the lives of many and she will be cherished forever.

About The Kathy Benjamin VoTech Scholarship

The Kathy D. Benjamin Scholarship is designed for new or continuing students enrolled in a vocational or technical program in the 2023-2024 academic year. This award honors Ms. Benjamin’s personal achievements in her profession and her commitment to serving others. This is a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship award. Applications are due on April 30, 2023 at 11:59 PM.

QUALIFICATIONS AND APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must:

  • Have an unweighted overall GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale

  • Be enrolled in a postsecondary vocational or technical program at regionally accredited institution

  • Be a U.S. resident and attend a college/university in-person in the U.S.

  • Provide a complete copy of the 2023-2024 FAFSA® Student Aid Report (SAR)

  • Upload a typed, 250- to 300-word essay to outline why the student chose their field of study, their educational/career goals, and how they plan to make a lasting impact with their career to merge on the path to success. Must be your original work.
